Sunny spring day at a cottage deck overlooking Georgian Bay ready for opening
Stress-Free Seasonal Transitions

Cottage Opening & Closing Services

Arrive to a warm, running cottage in the spring, and leave with peace of mind in the fall. We handle the plumbing, power, and protection.

The Most Critical Days of the Cottage Season

Opening and closing your cottage are the two most important maintenance tasks of the year. Done correctly, they ensure your property lasts for generations. Done poorly, they can lead to thousands of dollars in water damage, mold growth, and structural issues.

The "Closing" Challenge:
As temperatures in Carling drop below freezing, water expands. If any water is left in your pipes, traps, pumps, or hot water tank, it will freeze and burst the metal or plastic. This is the #1 cause of insurance claims for cottage owners.

The "Opening" Excitement:
Spring is for relaxing, not wrestling with a prime pump or fixing leaks. Our opening service ensures that when you pull into the driveway for the first long weekend, the water is running, the heat is on, and the fridge is cold.

Plumbing

Complete draining and antifreeze application.

Systems

Hydro, propane, and septic management.

Security

Final lock-up and shutter installation.

Comfort

Arrive to a fully functional cottage.

Seasonal Services Checklist

  • Heating: Set thermostat to winter maintenance temp (if applicable) or shut down.
  • Exterior: Store patio furniture, pull in floating docks (if requested), and secure boats.

Spring Opening

Get your season started right with a professional opening.

  • Water System: Reassemble pump, prime lines, and chlorinate system (shock well).
  • Leak Check: Pressurize system and inspect every joint and fixture for leaks.
  • Hot Water: Fill tank and turn on power/gas once full.
  • Startup: Turn on main hydro, plug in appliances, and test smoke detectors.
  • Exterior: Reinstall dock ramps and set up patio furniture.

Trusted for Over 10 Years

"We used to try and close the cottage ourselves, but it was always stressful. One year we missed a trap and it cost us $3,000 in repairs. Now we just call Carling Cottage Care. It's worth every penny for the peace of mind."
